5 key facts about work-study
1- The SUPMODE work-study program is based on an apprenticeship contract.
The apprenticeship contract leads to a " state-recognized diploma" , often confused with the professionalization contract, which leads to a " qualification".
2 - Timetable & schedule
The time spent at the training center is included in the working time of your contract, i.e. 35h / week.
1 week at school / 3 weeks on the job
(rhythm smoothed over the year)
3 - Status
Under an apprenticeship contract, you are an employee in your own right.
As an apprentice, you have the same rights as all other company employees.
You are therefore bound by the French Labor Code and the collective bargaining agreement of the host company.
4- Start and end of contract
Start of contract
When you start an apprenticeship, you must complete a trial period.
This lasts 45 days from the apprentice's first day of work, whether consecutive or not. In the event of absence due to illness, the trial period will be extended according to the number of days of absence. In the case of an apprenticeship contract, the trial period is non-renewable.
Breach of contract
After the trial period, the contract may be automatically terminated in the following cases:
- Serious misconduct on the part of the apprentice
- Inaptitude (no obligation to reclassify)
- Resignations after notice period and mediator's opinion
- Court-ordered liquidation
- Permanent exclusion from school
5 - Compensation
Age and year of study are used as the basis for calculating the remuneration of an employee on an apprenticeship contract.
Minimum wages for apprenticeship contracts are set as a percentage of the minimum wage (SMIC or Salaire Minimum Conventionnel (SMC)) for the branch in question.
