Fashion Product Manager

The Fashion Product Manager is an essential position, requiring a thorough knowledge of the fashion market and textile production processes, as well as expertise in project management and product marketing. He/she must analyze trends, select materials, manage costs and monitor collection development, in collaboration with the design, production and distribution teams.

Missions of the fashion product manager

The Fashion Product Manager's missions are varied and revolve around several major areas:

  1. Market analysis and competitive intelligence

The Fashion Product Manager must carry out in-depth research into fashion trends and consumer behavior in order to offer products that meet market expectations. To do this, he/she must monitor the competition, analyze emerging fashion trends and track changes in consumer preferences through market research and customer feedback.

 

  1. Defining the collection plan

The Fashion Product Manager is responsible for structuring collections in line with brand strategy. This includes choosing the product categories to be developed (ready-to-wear, accessories, shoes, etc.), defining ranges of colors, materials and cuts, drawing up specifications and managing the company's development schedule. 

 

  1. Coordination with creative and technical teams

The Fashion Product Manager liaises between the creative department and suppliers to ensure that products meet defined expectations. He/she works with stylists and designers to refine sketches and prototypes, validates prototypes and ensures compliance with specifications (quality, cost, deadlines) and selects suppliers and production workshops, taking into account budgetary and quality constraints. 

 

  1. Product development and cost management

One of the key roles of the Fashion Product Manager is to ensure a balance between creativity and profitability. To achieve this, he/she must monitor production costs and adjust budgets accordingly, optimize manufacturing processes to maximize margins and limit losses, make adjustments if necessary (material modifications, quantity optimization) and validate prototypes.

 

  1. Pricing strategy and collection marketing

Once the collections have been finalized, the Fashion Product Manager must establish an effective sales strategy by determining sales prices based on revenue costs, margins and positioning, then work with the marketing and merchandising teams to set up a communication plan.
