A Unique Speciality in France

At SUPMODE, Bachelor 3 - Design students have the opportunity to choose a specialty: Corsetry or Denim. Today we take a look at the universal and timeless language of denim.

SUPMODE is very proud of the opening of the Denim specialization, the only one of its kind in France. This project is based on prestigious collaborations, notably with Pierre-Henri Servajean of Bolid'ster (Armalith's supplier) for raw materials. New machines have also been integrated on our premises, such as the offset arm machine, to enrich the students' practical experience.

A Visionary Theme

Students have to design an event outfit by revisiting the DNA of iconic designers such as Franck Sorbier, WLT, Dries Van Noten, Rick Owens and Loewe. Known for their innovative, avant-garde approach, these designers are pioneers of denim, which they have elevated to the level of art.

The History of Denim by Tilmann Wrobel

The project kicked off in December with a conference hosted by Tilmann Wrobel, a figure who embodies the alliance between haute couture and streetwear, with denim as the common thread.

Tilmann Wrobel began his career in the prestigious ateliers of Dior and Nina Ricci, where he honed his eye for detail and precision.

Passionate about skateboard culture, he has fused Parisian elegance with urban energy to create a unique vision of denim. For him, denim is much more than just a fabric: it's a vehicle for expression, a bridge between luxury and streetwear. His "luxury-meets-streetwear" perspective has revolutionized the perception of denim, turning it into a sophisticated object of desire.

From Fashion Design to Model Making

Mid-December, the handovers between styling and pattern-making took place. This is when the students' creative concepts become prototypes before the manufacturing stage.

An essential step in the project was the wash-off process. After collaborating and sharing their visions, the students had their silhouettes treated with traditional techniques to match their artistic vision.

Before the end-of-year vacations, the students carried out the first fittings on their canvases, accompanied by adjustments and prototyping to prepare for the next stage: manufacturing.

Lighting

The project will culminate in a photo shoot showcasing the students' creations.

The highlight will be the SUPMODE fashion show on June 6, 2025, when all the works will be presented under the spotlight.

The aim is to enable students to create freely while assimilating traditional techniques.

SUPMODE values avant-garde and visionary designers, reminding its students that they must dare to break free from convention to develop their own identity in the fashion world.

"Denim is closer to everyday life and men than the fashion trend as a whole". - Tilmann Wrobel
