The new Police Nationale uniform is by SUPMODE

Like all fashion schools in France, SUPMODE has been asked by Mr. Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, in spring 2021 to respond to a call for projects: "Revisiting the NATIONAL POLICE uniform" signed in 2004 by the House of Balenciaga.

Students in SUPMODE's Bachelor 2 Fashion Design & Marketing Management program worked on this ambitious project with 2 professional contributors, Betty Mahen and Lali Gaucher, to meet the firm's tight schedule.

In a spirit of excellence, these students worked on this evolution to better inscribe the contours, symbols and responsibilities that this outfit embodies.

This work situation involving the design of work uniforms was an excellent exercise for SUPMODE learners. Working on tomorrow's safety and societal issues proved to be an exceptional exercise.

The new POLICE NATIONALE uniform was created from sketches proposed by the SUPMODE school.

Our Bac +2 students won the winner's prize!

The prize is a source of great pride for the school and its students. Their talent, noticed and congratulated by the highest authorities, gives new impetus to their passion.

The relay of the new POLICE NATIONALE uniform design between the House of Balenciaga and SUPMODE will henceforth be part of the SUPMODE school's history.

The students will shortly be invited to the Ministry of the Interior, to be officially congratulated on this prize. A visit to the Paul Boyé workshop, which manufactures the uniforms, is scheduled for the coming weeks.

Interview

Testimonial from Lucie Berger, a student at SUPMODE, who took part in the project.

  1. How did you react to the announcement of this project?

We were surprised! It was such an unusual theme, it put a lot of pressure on us. But it was an honor to lead such a project, and it made us feel useful.

  1. Can you tell us how the exercise went?

We carried out this project in groups of 6. There were a lot of technical guidelines: we had to comply with the technical and functional specifications given to us by the Ministry of the Interior, which is why we had to devote 1.5 days of the three days to research.

The second day was devoted to moodboarding and sketching. Finally, the last day was devoted to the written part (copywriting, graphic charter...).

  1. Did you find the project rather easy or rather complicated? Which part did you like best?

Quite complicated, but personally I loved it. We learned a lot about the ranks of the police, the textiles used in the army and also the lexicon of tenders. It was very enriching.

I'm proud to have seen this project through to the end.

  1. How did you react when you found out you'd won the tender?

When the school called to tell me the good news, I was at work. I screamed! My work colleagues couldn't believe it. I'd often told them about it, and I couldn't wait for the verdict!
