ZOOM ON... SARAH MANDIRAC

Student, Sarah Mandirac

Sarah Mandirac, Bachelor 2 student

From the time she was in second grade, she was determined to set up her own vintage clothing company specializing in stage and event costumes. Her lifelong passion is the art of fashion, the art of revealing one's personality and expressing one's creativity through a garment, a story.

This passion for fashion and costume design came about thanks to two factors: her grandmother, who taught her how to sew, and the Barbie films, which inspired her with their different worlds and costumes. The world of the supernatural animates her, and she wants to transcribe the world she imagines in her head. Through this brand project, she hopes to convey the realities that are unique to each of us.

"What's better than telling a story that can speak to everyone beyond a costume?" - Sarah

What motivated Sarah to join SUPMODE?

Sarah graduated with a vocational baccalaureate in fashion and clothing. She decided to join SUPMODE mainly because of the major project in her third year: creating a brand. The dual skills offered by SUPMODE's Bachelor's degree in Fashion Marketing & Design also motivated Sarah's choice, as the program provides a whole host of tools for creating and developing a brand, creating and styling a collection, and also learning to manage and work on a project as part of a team. She hopes to specialize in fashion design next year in her third year.

What are her fashion inspirations and favorite brands?

Her fashion inspirations are drawn from earlier centuries, particularly the 60s. She has a certain sensitivity to baroque and medieval costumes, for example, the universe of the Lord of the Rings films. As a major fashion house, she is particularly fond of Chanel and Dolce & Gabana.

She also follows accounts on Instagram that feature very inspiring universes such as :

- @lulumoonnowlbooks

- @sweeper3d

- @helena_lee_way

- @revintaria

- @Retrostage.fr

The trends they like least are the very Urban, Streetwear and Sportwear styles.

We wanted to highlight Sarah because she organized an event around her creations: an exhibition followed by a fashion show.

For her, the objective was to learn how to organize an event: understand costs, manage a team, manage a project. This exercise enabled her to get to know herself better, to know what she was capable of doing on stage. She also wanted to show her evolution through a playful show and announce the creation of her brand.

The second objective, just as important for her, was to share her experience and her first steps in fashion with other young people who were also passionate about fashion or interested in moving into this field.

The first steps of her brand: Costymisme

"My imagination really gets me going. Because that's where all the determination lies, the dreams that drive me to surpass myself and take me to the top." - Sarah

Costymisme is a combination of two words: Costume and stylism. To take it a step further, words ending in "ism" are used to name vast movements of ideas.

The universes of Costymisme are born from the stories she has created and imagined in her head, from the fantastic films she has watched, and from mystical, imaginary and dreamlike worlds. It's through lyricism and performance that this brand reveals its emotions.

Costymisme will be a high-end ready-to-wear brand for men and women. As glamorous as it is vintage, the aim is to tell stories inspired by reality (real events or other themes): to reveal, in both costumes and performances, the brand's vision of different subjects, creating a world with fantastical, imaginary aspects that are similar to reality. The brand's universe will be guided by the image of dreams, lyricism and fantasy.

What do you want to do after SUPMODE?

"Following Supmode, I'm planning to take part in mini-training courses to learn about team and project management, so that I can get the support I need to create my own project.

In a few years, I think I'll be able to do the job I've been waiting for and enjoy what I do. I want to be as much involved in events as I am in fashion. These two sectors combine perfectly, they both require a lot of energy and creativity, and today I know that's what makes me tick!" - Sarah
